East Side Cenicienta is the retelling of the classic fairytale “Cinderella”, written and developed in 2015 by TXO students, and later revised in 2021 by current students. East Side Cenicienta is a coming-of-age tale set in the vibrant agricultural community of “Salad town” where Cenicienta, a young, intelligent woman is trying to find her voice as she deals with heartache, trauma, and grief. Struggling to connect with her step family after the passing of her father, Cenicienta finds herself lost and uncertain of her future – until one night she’s visited by the ghost of her Great Tia Flor, who guides Cenicienta through her grief by exploring her family’s history.
East Side Cenicienta examines social issues that today’s youth deal with on a daily basis including identity, self-empowerment, stereotypes, and the importance of family and community. Through this unique production, we bring to life the voices and imaginations of our youth through film.
