The Epicenter was launched through a partnership of Monterey County Child Welfare Services and VOICES (Voice Our Independent Choices for Emancipation Support). VOICES is the first youth-designed and youth-led program in the nation for transition-age foster youth. After successfully replicating its program in Sonoma and Santa Clara Counties, VOICES was invited by Monterey County Child Welfare Services in 2013 to launch a VOICES-like program in Salinas.
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
In response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate coalition on March 19, 2020. The coalition tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
Our programs, conferences, and wrap-around services work to empower our community as a safe place for girls and women every step of the way. We recognize the inequalities that preface so much of the violence plaguing our communities and work to stamp out those root inequalities.
Our involvement in education, local government, police departments, with healthcare professionals, trauma and addiction specialists, legal advocates, business owners, and a diverse public who support our mission prepare us to provide violence prevention and intervention services for our entire community.
NAMI Monterey County is a grassroots nonprofit designed to support family members and others who have loved ones suffering from a mental illness. We offer programs for families and consumers, advocate on behalf of those with mental illnesses, and hold a variety of educational workshops and programs throughout Monterey County. We are affiliated with NAMI California and NAMI National.

Community Human Services is a 501c(3) public nonprofit and Joint Powers Authority providing person-centered substance abuse and mental health counseling and recovery services to middle and low income individuals and families in Monterey County, California.
Virtually all of the work we do at CHS addresses underlying conditions or root causes of personal, family and community problems, whether it’s addiction, domestic violence, mental illness, emotional health, homelessness, child abuse, or any number of problems that people have trouble solving on their own.
