The fifth mural in the Salinas Safe Routes to School Sidewalk Art Project has been completed. Introducing “Cultivar el Espacio” aka Colibrí by Ireliz Vasquez, a vibrant new addition celebrating culture, community, and imagination.
The mural features two hummingbirds, symbols of joy, health, and good luck, positioned near a flower to represent growth. Inspired by the Salinas Valley, the surrounding fields honor the land and the farmworkers who sustain it. Green tones reflect abundance, while a rich blue sky represents the strength and dedication of the community. The sun includes a subtle Aztec design, connecting the artwork to ancestral roots, and a heart-shaped strawberry symbolizes love for East Salinas.
Designed with bold colors to engage young viewers, Colibrí invites curiosity, learning, and conversation.
Visit the finished mural at 925 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA, and let your imagination run wild with the many sea creatures featured.
